The story tells that in 1923 a young woman traveled deep into a remote jungle, looking for rare flowers. While searching for a rare flower, she discovered a mysterious hieroglyph that pointed towards an ancient arched doorway. Intrigued, she stepped through the doorway into the dark beyond. As she descended into the dark, she found herself in a hidden temple. Her mind raced with questions… and those are the questions you’re gonna answer by playing the “Gems Quest” game! So, how do you do that? Let’s take a look at the game.
The game provides a board of tiles on which are placed arrows of different colors, and pointing toward different directions. The objective of the game is to create matches of three-in-a-row (or more) arrows of same color. To do that, you have to move the arrows by clicking on them with your mouse. The arrow will move towards the direction it’s pointing to. The arrows change direction at collision with the walls, tough. You need to make a match above golden tiles to collect gold, and you need gold to finish the level.
There are some “power ups” too. These power ups become available when you reach a certain amount of matches. The first two power ups are: fire arrows, which break arrows on the way; and fire balls, which brake random arrows on the board. The power ups level 2 are: the hammer, which breaks one tile with an arrow and golden tile behind it; the bomb, which breaks 3x3 tiles and golden tiles behind them; and the color bomb, which breaks all arrows of the same color on the board.
When you first enter the game, you’ll see the welcome screen with the following options:
- Start: to start playing at once. You’ll be asked for a player name before. Also, there are some hints available to help you to learn how to play.
- Options: this is the menu from which you can get some help and set some game options, like sound volume, music volume, and full screen.
- Totems: the screen where you can see your achievements.
- Help: it explains how to play the game.
- Quit: no further explanation required.
When you’re playing the game, you can always click on the Menu button to access to a pop-up menu with these options:
- Return to game: to finish the current game.
- Options: the same Options menu commented before.
- Help: to see the instructions to the game.
- Restart: to restart the level all over again.
- Quit to menu.
